Diva on NPR

My take on Maria Callas part 1. Yup none of these look like her but hopefully I can get close in part 2. I never understood what was so special about her until I rented some DVDs on her life and performances. She is electrifying. Talk about a chameleon with a head turn she literally changes into character within a blink. I could go on and on about her amazing gestures and those eyes those hypnotic orbs that can bore right through you. Uh MAN…Onassis is a dick.

Postcards

These flew out while cleaning my bookshelf. As soon as I saw them it took me back to Fattys Cafe in Eagle Rock. Since I didn’t have any paper I grabbed couple of these postcards out in front that had a nice high gloss to em’ they took the ballpoint pen well. I much prefer this stock then to the backs of the Farside Calender that a worker gave me recently. You’d think a classy outfit like Barnes and Noble could give you couple of sheets clean bond paper. I wonder what Gary Larson is doing?

This panorama sketch was done I think a month ago. I should start dating these things again. Whats great about these little scribbles is that they jolt the old noggin back towhen these were done. For instance the student behind John(the middle drawing) kept staring off into space dead to the world but as soon as he started flipping through a manga hidden between his text book his eyes sparked to life.

Finished a book on the Spanish painter Goya by Robert Hughes. Highly recommended for any Goya fan. His bullfighting lithos popped into my head during Karl Gnasses life drawing class. Viva Goya! 3-5 min sketches pimped up in photoshop.

CannonBall!

Went to hear Tchaikovsky at the Hollywood Bowl last Sat. It usually gets pretty chilly

at night but man this current LA weather kept it warm. I felt bad for the symphony.

The guest pianist didn’t seem to be inspired that night or at least I wasn’t moved. I wish

she would’ve been more bold or throw in something of her own maybe she did but not

being a musician I certainly wasn’t in on it. She did improvise after the piece which was a

treat. I wish they would’ve done that with the whole piece. The finale was of course

the 1812 with fireworks. O.k got my moneys worth barely. I forgot to mention the

yappers behind us who kept giggling and snorting during the concert. The guy in front

of me kept looking up but they kept at it. I would’ve said something but they were people

my wife had to get along with. Politics kept my trap shut.
